A. Integrating Text with Illustrations

The teacher engages the student in talking about the cover illustrations and connecting the illustration to the title. This will help activate background knowledge and get the student thinking about the characters, setting, or topic of the book. The teacher is modeling the language to talk about the cover and the metacognitive behavior of using clues from the pictures and the words to connect to what you already know to make an inference.
